new project!

A few days ago, I planted myself on the couch with my stack of knitting books, looking for the perfect unisex baby sweater pattern. I found a good number of boy baby clothes I'd like to knit. And a good number of girl baby clothes I'd like to knit, but nothing in-between that I was crazy about. Except a few blankets that caught my eye.

I looked back and forth over three blankets, trying to decide. One was an elegant blanket, with a few simple cables running the length of it. It looked quite plush, but didn't seem 'babyish' to me. After making, I mean, politely requesting, my boyfriend to look them over, I decided on the basketweave blanket from Knitting for Baby. But definitely not in chenille. The doubling as a bath towel idea is nice, but I wanted something more blankety.

I've been knitting a lot from my stash lately, one of my goals, but I really didn't have anything for this project. So... I got the perfect excuse to try out some of Sundara's yarn! We've been emailing back and forth, as I try to describe the perfect green that I'm looking for, and she's been extremely accomodating. I can't wait to see it!

For now, I need to finish up Dianne's bag, there's not much left to go, just need to i-cord the strap. I need to save that for work knitting. Tonite, I'm going to be playing with glass:

I'm trying something a bit crafty.. from the new Martha Stewart magazine. Hint: I get to pour paint.

bichon modeling

I was quite productive at work last nite. Prepared some bills to be sent, caught up on my Martha Stewart Living, and made a lot of progress on my ribbon scarf. This morning, I finished! Finally! I am not sure I would knit another scarf like this. I have a problem with not being able to see progress. I also have a problem with having to cast off 3,200 stitches. It's lunacy. Sheer lunacy.

My little baby bichon thinks the scarf is hers. The way she just tosses it over her neck and prances like she's an important little model. Excuse me, but I must have my Milkbones. No, not the pretzel treats, I.... said.... MILKBONES!

Pattern: Ribbon Scarf from Handknit Holidays
Yarn: Rowan Cashsoft DK in Bloom Three skeins with 2 inches to spare. Seriously.
Needles: Inox and Boye circulars, sizes 5 and 6
Modifications: In the second to last row, I added some beading, one bead (the leftovers from the Odessi) every 40 stitches. Just enough to give it a little sparkle here and there.

I'm sure Abby is happy I'm done with this one, it means more time for me to be working on the bag (she thinks it's hers) with her favorite Noro yarn. Hopefully this weekend there will be felting!

bichon in a bag

abby_bag.jpg

Abby and I have been quite busy lately. Abby was hard at work in my boyfriend's kitchen, shredding a bit more of the phonebook, working a little bit more on the cabinets, and probably practicing 'lie down' in secret. She's such a good girl. I was a little less busy, just working and preparing for Easter. Cary's family came to visit us for the weekend, and we all had a great time. Abby may be going through a little withdrawl.. she was crying as everyone was leaving yesterday. I felt bad and gave her a chewstick to work on this morning, now all is well.

I've been working steadily on the Elizabeth bag, but it looks pretty much the same as my last post. I have about 20 more rounds until the shaping for the top, then hopefully it will begin to look like something. So, how do you spice up a picture of a bag? Put a bichon in it of course!

I'm going to try and finish up the Ribbon Scarf in the next few days. I have 2 or 3 more rows to go, but at over 1,000 stitches per row, it's quite a bit of work. When the scarf and this bag are out of the way, I found out this weekend what my new project will be: a baby sweater! Cary's brother and sister-in-law are expecting, probably in December. Baby clothes! My favorite knitting. Any thoughts on a good unisex sweater pattern?
