a whole lotta garter stitch

Pattern: Circle of Friends Garter-Stitch Blanket from Last-Minute Knitted Gifts
Yarn: Plymouth Encore
Needles: Boye circular, size 8
Modifications: a satin binding was added by Andra's grandma

Andra and I had high hopes for our blanket project. It turned out nicely, though finding a matching gauge was hard. Also, we didn't weave in any of the ends, thinking these ends could be used to seam up the sides. This was appealing to me. I hate weaving in ends. It didn't quite work out this way-- Andra and I knit alternating strips to minimize any gauge issues. It was my fault-- I'm a lefty knitter. When we went to seam our strips together, some of the seams had no ends to work with, and some of the seams had twice as many. Doh!

The project came out well, but I don't think either of us will be making garter-stitch anything for a while.

seaming is done

We fianally finished the seaming and weaving in of all ends on the blanket this week. I'm don't think I'll be making something with this many color changes for a long while. Andra's grandma is visiting this week, and I'm told she's an excellent sewer and in need of a project while she's here. Perfect! She's been nominated to sew on a satin binding for little J.T. to squish between his fingers. Pictures will be up next week.

a lot of seaming to do

My friend Andra and I set out to make this baby blanket from Last Minute Knitted Gifts for our friend Kelly. We figured that with only two people, the gauge issue would not be a huge one. Luckily, I began this project before Andra, and she got to match my gauge. I think it took her probably a whole strip of the blanket knitted and ripped out before we were identical. Now, we can't tell who knit which strip, they look perfect together. We're working on the seaming part now, which I don't enjoy.
